GEORGIAN-ORILLA SUPER IN FINAL

It took four tries, but Georgian-Orillia finally slayed the dragon that is Georgian-Barrie Red Army, scoring three unanswered goals to steal a 3-2 win in the Fall Super League Championship game.

Red Army entered the game with a 7-0 record, including a win over Orillia the previous week.  But without defensive stalwart Jamie Thomson and offensive stars Nick Leigh and Steve White, they knew they would be in tough against an Orillia squad that put a full team on the ice for only the second time this season.  Red Army led 1-0 after one and 2-0 after two, with Orillia tendy Brad Renton preventing the game from being a rout.

Orillia finally caught fire in the third, closing the gap to 2-1 with six minutes remaining and tying it up with four minutes to go.   The game looked to be headed to overtime before a last ditch rush by Orillia and a goal mouth scramble saw them score the eventual game winner with 29 seconds to go.

Red Army responded with a flurry of their own, barely missing the tying goal,  but could not overcome the clock or a disputed icing call, ending up on the losing end for the first time this season.

Super League play commences again on January 18th as Orillia looks to make it three in a row.
